Doctors should be banned from going on strike, says the Conservative Party, which has again called to change the law on the issue.
Doctors’ leaders condemned the proposal, labelling it “antidemocratic” and adding that it would unfairly gag clinicians who want to raise legitimate concerns about working in the NHS to ensure safe patient care.
In her keynote speech at the party’s annual conference in Manchester this week the Conservative Party leader, Kemi Badenoch, said,1 “In the NHS, industrial action has kept waiting lists high for far too long. Enough is enough. We will ban doctors from going on strike.”
If the party wins the next general election it plans to change the law so that doctors would be treated the same as police officers …
