TopGum unveils high-dose creatine and electrolyte gummies

Among the eight formulations are a high-dose creatine gummy and an electrolyte solution formulated into robust doses, while also keeping sugar loads low.

“While creatine and electrolytes have appeared in gummies before, they’ve rarely been delivered in truly potent, credible doses,” said TopGum CEO Eyal Shohat. “With TopGum’s proprietary technology, we set a new standard, offering efficacious levels of these core sports actives in a format that finally combines efficiency, convenience and enjoyment.”

Each seven-gram TopGum electrolyte gummy contains 100 mg of electrolytes in a combination of sodium, potassium, magnesium and chloride salts. According to the company, the gummies harness the natural saltiness of electrolytes in a sweet gummy with a subtle, salty combination. The electrolyte gummy comes in three flavors: lemon-lime, umami watermelon and salted cherry orange.

Quick-acting sugars are often depleted in the beginning of activity, and by pairing creatine monohydrate and electrolytes with TopGum’s sugar base, the company can replenish sugars that can be burned during athletic activities.

“Our electrolyte gummies appeal to the health-minded consumers seeking new and intriguing flavor experiences while also meeting their nutritional standards,” said Jennifer Toomey, head of new product development for TopGum USA. “We formulated these gummies to carry the highest dose-per-gram of electrolytes available on the market. Four gummies provide the same electrolyte dose as a 330 ml bottle of a hydration sports beverage while still striking the perfect balance between salt and sweet notes for a fun and enjoyable flavor experience.”

Included in its active lifestyle gummy series is a high-dose magnesium combination gummy and a caffeinated energy gummy containing up to 40 mg of caffeine. This chewable is based on TopGum’s proprietary microencapsulation technology, ensuring enhanced stability, bioavailability and efficacious dose delivery, the company said.

According to Precedence Research, the global electrolyte gummies market totaled $1.54 billion in 2024 and is predicted to increase to approximately $4.91 billion by 2034.

Shohat said this trajectory corresponds with the general trend of functional supplements moving into gummies and that consumers are looking to consume a more convenient delivery format.

“Having a gummy in your pocket during a run or exercise is much more convenient than a bottle of functional beverage,” he said.

    Powered by creatine

Creatine is increasingly appearing in bars and other functional foods. However, its grainy texture has challenged its integration into these formats in meaningful doses.

“It is well known that several of the creatine gummies that are on the market do not contain the levels of creatine monohydrate that are stated on their label, so there is a lack of trust in this category,” Shohat said. “At TopGum, we have thoughtfully formulated our creatine gummies to reliably deliver 1.5 grams of creatine monohydrate per gummy. As we do with all of our gummies, we drew upon our confectionary heritage to pay special attention to the flavor profiles.”

TopGum has loaded 1.5 grams of Creapure creatine into a single gummy, and four gummies provide the recommended daily dose of creatine, available in three natural fruit flavors: cherry, raspberry and watermelon.

“We see creatine as the new hero in the active lifestyle segment with more and more brands experimenting with gummies as a novel delivery format,” Shohat said.

The company may also be looking beyond sports enthusiasts regarding creatine.

Shohat added that the potential for creatine is vast and that there could be a place for creatine gummies beyond the active lifestyle, for example, for cognition.

“We feel that there is a lot of potential for creatine and that there absolutely could be a place for creatine gummies for those that may be seeking cognitive benefits,” he said.

“The gummies that we have created for the active lifestyle campaign are a demonstration of what we can offer. We would look forward to working with a brand to tailor a formulation for their target audience. At 1.5 grams of creatine monohydrate per gummy, the serving size could also easily be adjusted depending on the desired end point.”
