This webinar will be hosted live and available on-demandWednesday, December 10th, 202512:30 – 1:30 PM ETSpatial biology allows researchers to visualize gene, protein, and metabolite distributions directly within tissues, uncovering biological patterns that many bulk and single-cell methods cannot resolve alone. However, scientists continue to face barriers in resolution, multiplexing, and data integration, including biological and technical variability, that limit the depth of spatial insights. Overcoming these challenges will enable a better understanding of how tissue organization shapes cell function and disease processes. In this live roundtable webinar, Jeff Moffitt, Ramon Sun, and Jared Burks will discuss how spatial biology approaches…
Credit: Westend61/Getty Images A new study from researchers at Northwestern University has described how the TDP-43 protein moves from its normal location in the cell nucleus to the cytoplasm resulting in excessive neuronal firing in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and frontotemporal dementia (FTD). The research, published in Nature Neuroscience, also details the development of a gene-targeting antisense oligonucleotide (ASO) drug which restores normal balance and reduces this overactivity. In their new work, the Northwestern team discovered that when TDP-43 malfunctions, it causes mis-splicing of the potassium channel gene KCNQ2. Normally, KCNQ2 encodes the Kv7.2 channel, which generates a stabilizing electrical…
A new study from Mayo Clinic emphasizes the tendency for menopausal women to navigate this life stage without seeking the proper care to help ease their symptoms. The survey of nearly 5,000 women aged 45–60 found that more than three out of four respondents experienced menopause symptoms. Many of them reported substantial effects on daily life, work productivity, and overall well-being. However, more than 80% did not seek medical care for their menopause symptoms.Critically, more than one-third (34%) of the surveyed women had moderate to very severe symptoms. Sleep disturbances and weight gain were among the most common issues affecting…
Wellthspan Advisory’s Nadine Esposito on designing systems for 100-year lives. People are living longer than at any point in history – yet we remain dramatically underprepared to live better. For decades, the conversation about longevity has been dominated by optimism (‘plan for 100’) and technology (‘reverse aging’). What’s been missing is realism: how longer lives actually intersect with health, wealth, work, care, and legacy across life stages. According to the World Economic Forum’s Living Longer, Better report, more than half of adults admit they haven’t saved enough – or don’t know if they will have enough – for retirement [1]. Meanwhile, the Stanford Center on…
Since the release of the chatbot ChatGPT in late 2022, there has been frantic debate at universities about artificial intelligence (AI). These conversations have centred on undergraduate teaching — how to prevent cheating and how to use AI to improve learning. But a quieter, deeper disruption is unfolding in research, the other core activity of universities.A doctoral education has long been seen as the pinnacle of academic training, an apprenticeship in original thinking, critical analysis and independent enquiry. However, that model is now under pressure. AI is not just another research tool; it is redefining what research is, how it…
Many of us think of brain health as something we worry about later, when we start forgetting names or misplacing keys. But new research suggests that the earliest signs of Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s may show up years before any memory lapses do—and in places you might not expect.
Nature, Published online: 03 November 2025; doi:10.1038/d41586-025-03448-zCells change shape to move efficiently in a range of spatial environments. This response can be informed by the cell’s memory of past deformation.
