Credit: Nicola Tree / Getty Images Researchers at King’s College London have shown that an existing genetic test for breast cancer can also predict future breast cancer in women with ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) or lobular carcinoma in situ (LCIS), two conditions characterized by lesions in breast tissue that can progress into breast cancer. Results of the study, published in Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarker & Prevention, show early potential for this genetic test to inform a more personalized approach when treating these patients. “Predicting who is most likely to develop invasive breast cancer is vital to offering the best possible…

The systematic review and meta-analysis included 26 randomized controlled trials involving 668 healthy participants. The findings indicated that Rhodiola rosea (RR) supplementation improved VO2 max, time to exhaustion, time trial performance and antioxidant capacity, while decreasing creatine kinase and lactate levels.“The analysis revealed that RR’s effect on VO2 max was significantly influenced by daily dosage, with higher doses (exceeding 600 mg/d) resulting in more substantial improvements compared to lower doses,” wrote researchers in China, Malaysia and the Republic of Korea.Additionally, they observed that trained individuals exhibited lower levels of creatine kinase, a marker for muscle damage, compared to untrained individuals.“This…

Proteins found in blood plasma can provide critical insights into human health, acting as biomarkers that scientists can use to understand disease and provide personalized care. Yet, capturing the full complexity of the plasma proteome has remained a technical hurdle. Conventional screening methods can be slow and often miss low-abundance proteins.Aaron Gajadhar, PhD Director of Strategic Applications SeerIn this Innovation Spotlight, Aaron Gajadhar, the director of strategic applications at Seer, discusses the potential contained within the plasma proteome and introduces Proteograph® ONE, a system that uses engineered nanoparticles to prepare proteins for mass spectrometry-based analysis. Coupled with an automated workflow…
