I’m extremely picky with colors. Among the (short) list of ones I like are rich red and purple tones—they call to mind my childhood desire to perpetually live in the Twilight universe. The second I saw the Le Creuset color Rhône, it spoke to both my middle school and adult self, who prefers hues that make an impact in my space. No white cookware items for me! You can imagine how crushing it was when I found out that this stunning holiday cranberry red was going to be retired for good. Why would you do this to me, Le Creuset? …
Five years after Alex Trebek shared publicly his diagnosis of stage IV metastatic pancreatic cancer, therapies for the disease remain few, and limited to specific patient subgroups. Metastatic pancreatic cancer accounts for approximately 80–85% of all pancreatic cancer diagnoses, a treatment market that is projected to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 12.3%, from $2.92 billion last year to $5.84 billion by 2030 (Grand View Research). Even worse, according to the American Cancer Society, the five-year survival rate remains tragically low at 13% for all stages and just 3% for distant pancreatic cancer. And the treatment cost per…
Differences in brain regions and metabolism influence people—and animals’—drinking habits, which affect the body over the long term. A better understanding of this could lead to the development of therapies for alcohol use disorder.Image credit:© iStock.com, skynesherAs the holiday season arrives with its traditions of reunions and parties, glasses clink a little more than usual, with people leaning into celebration and long-awaited breaks. Whether it is humans treating themselves to one too many glasses of wine, animals seeking out fermented fruit, or researchers getting mice drunk, alcohol shapes behavior in surprising ways. MitoRx raises new funding to advance Myo-004, a first-in-class mitochondrial-targeted obesity treatment that aims to preserve lean mass. Oxford-based biotechnology company MitoRx Therapeutics Limited (MitoRx) has raised £5.5 million ($7.2 million) in a pre-Series A round, led by Oshen Holdings SA (Luxembourg), to accelerate development of what it describes as a next-generation obesity therapy called Myo-004. The funding follows a series of recent preclinical data presentations and will move the said treatment program toward clinical candidate selection. Myo-004 is a first-in-class injectable small molecule designed to promote fat loss without compromising muscle. In preclinical studies shared across multiple conferences in…
1. Prioritize Getting Back to Your Sleep Schedule the Next NightThe best way to recover after a sleepless night is to not let it become two (or more) nights of disrupted sleep. Aim to go to sleep at the same time you usually do the night after not sleeping well, and get back to a regular, consistent sleep schedule as soon as possible. And, if you’re going to sleep in on the weekend, the best way to do it is to gradually cut back on your time in bed each day so you’re back to your normal schedule by the top…

What happened after publicationAfter publication of this paper by Ma and colleagues (BMJ 2025;390:e085029, doi:10.1136/bmj-2025-085029, published 24 September 2025) and its linked editorial (BMJ 2025;390:r1893, doi:10.1136/bmj.r1893),12 BMJ was alerted to concerns that messaging in key areas may not be sufficiently supported by the data presented in the work.Reason for expressing concernThe research paper1 shows an association between non-attendance at first breast screening and death from breast cancer. There is concern that a lack of data about all cause mortality, and/or lack of emphasis on those data, is a critical limitation. This may impact the implications of the work and BMJ…
Human chromosomes (artificially coloured) vary widely from cell to cell, according to an investigation of the DNA in more than 100 cells from a single person. Credit: Cavallini James/BSIP/Science Photo LibraryIn a technological tour-de-force, researchers have sequenced the whole genomes of more than 100 individual cells from one 74-year-old man. The results exposed chaos within: an extra chromosome arm here, a missing chunk of chromosome there, and smaller snippets of DNA altered, deleted or duplicated. In several of the cells, the Y chromosome had been lost entirely.“There were some cells in there that were very messed up,” says Joe Luquette,…
Credit: wildpixel/GettyImages Researchers at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center have discovered that renal medullary carcinoma (RMC) cells use a process called “myeloid mimicry” to evade the immune system and promote rapid disease progression following immunotherapy treatment. This discovery, published in Nature Communications, came about after a Phase II clinical trial testing a combination therapy of two immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) was halted after all 10 enrolled patients experience rapid disease progression. “We identified a myeloid mimicry pathway that can drive tumor hyper progression following immunotherapy in renal medullary carcinoma. Inhibiting this pathway may offer a promising strategy…
In a market where consumers increasingly expect supplements to deliver measurable benefits, transparent and responsible marketing is essential. At their core, dietary supplements claims are regulated health-related claims, and they must be properly substantiated. Here, Phyllis Marcus, vice president of BBB National Programs’ National Advertising Division, discusses the key dietary supplement case decisions of 2025 and what marketers should take away from them.
